This is interesting. I'm currently trialing HBS, waiting for my next paycheck to but it. I have 12 days left on the trial. The Windows sees this, that there is time left on the trial. The PE disc I created sees this to be true as well. However, if I use another PE disc that I built myself, and use the files in \bin\WINPE to execute HBS, my trial is send to have expired. There is not an issue with the date/clock. How can the trial be expired yet also seen as still having time left?
@n8chavez,
I am just
guessing, but I think you answered your own question.
Quote:"However, if I use another PE disc that I built myself, and use the files in \bin\WINPE to execute HBS, my trial is send to have expired."
I
suspect that Hasleo insert(s) files or modifies files in it own trial version PE disks that are not present in your homemade PE disk; hence, it does not recognize the PE disk as still being valid.
Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will answer the question.
@admin,
There
seems to be a deficiency in the Forum software. If I try to quote a post by copying it and inserting it, I just some dashes. If I paste what I have copied from the post into Notepad, I can then successfully copy and paste it from Notepad into the Forum post I am composing. This is the second time that has happened since I joined.
Have a great day.
Regards,
Phil
Maybe. But I thought the whole point of having \bin\WINPE was to use custom PE discs.

Well, it's a combination of different things involved and if something is missing or tampered with, it will just end the trial period ahead of schedule.
But I don't know if this would be in the interest of Hasleo to further discuss the protection here, I think this is in for a good reason - to prevent extending the trial period indefinitely.
I mean, again, isn't the point of the \bin\WINPE directory to be used in PEs? The name of the directory says that's the case. It's not tampering if that's its purpose. Basically, the point being, what's to stop a purchased HBS from behaving like this? Will I be able to have a functional HBS on a custom PE (which again I assume is the intended function of \bin\WINPE)?
Well, the purpose of that folder is for HBS itself to have its files ready to be implemented in the WinPE ISO I guess. That’s the main reason for existence for this folder.
But a registered copy of HBS will put its license in the registry. This is also copied to the created WinPE. You should be able to grab that for your own WinPE needs, just export HKLM\Software\Hasleo from the HBS created WinPE.
This will obviously only work for WinPE though, not for an additional installation on another PC, because in WinPE mode the machine code isn’t verified against the current hardware.
@al3x 's explanation is correct. This folder is prepared for Hasleo Backup Suite to create WinPE, and Hasleo Backup Suite imports license information into the WinPE registry during WinPE creation.

Sometimes it does have issues, and we may need to contact the developer to fix the bug.
Bummer. That means another dedicated PE just for HBS. That's wasted space.

Yes, it can indeed be optimized, it's just that we don't have enough manpower. If you look at the space taken up by other backup software after installation, Hasleo Backup Suite is already very small.
