Smart Backup Default - chmichael - 11-01-2025

Hello,
Smart backup should be enabled by default. At least for OS disk which MS is changing the WinPE partitions almost on every couple updates.

Thank you

For any existing tasks, you will need to manually select this option. It is only automatically selected for newly created tasks. My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you are only doing full manual backups of the whole SSD/HDD it should not matter if Smart backup is enabled or not - or if MS changes the disk configuration or not - right?

Even when performing a full backup manually, you need to check 'Smart Backup' to back up all partitions when the disk geometry changes.

I think some people create a large RE partition, say 1GB which is really nothing, and then resizing is never necessary.

Yes, that's a good workaround.

I don't have an RE partition. Deleted mine some time ago and absorbed it in to C. I couldn't see the point since I make (mostly daily) whole drive images. Have I missed something?

Epictetus, that's fine. All the MS monkeying around with the RE wim in your configuration only affects total OS partition storage, not the separate Recovery Partition which never seems to be big enough. Your way works just as well...
