Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - khanyash - 08-12-2025 Hasleo now creates an additional entry for "Hasleo Backup Suite" outside of the Hasleo folder in the Windows 11 "Start" menu. Is this a bug? The application does not launch when I click the entry. Is this a bug? The application does not launch when I click the entry. We haven't made any changes to this, so it must be due to a change in the implementation of Windows 11. We will investigate to see what happened. RE: Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - CDC9762 - 08-12-2025 I think this is the way W11 works, if you are using something frequently it will place an icon for it on the Start menu. RE: Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - admin - 08-13-2025 We have not been able to reproduce this issue yet, but we will continue to try. If it is indeed the case described by @CDC9762, then this issue may be difficult to fix. RE: Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - pt58 - 08-13-2025 I also seem to have an additional entry in the start menu which points to: "C:\Program Files\Hasleo\Hasleo Backup Suite\bin\BackupSystemTray.exe" It doesn't do anything when you click on it. The normal working entry points to: "C:\Program Files\Hasleo\Hasleo Backup Suite\bin\BackupMainUI.exe" Not sure how the rogue entry came about. Not sure if this helps. RE: Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - al3x - 08-13-2025 What @khanyash means is the normal app list that gets populated with the installation of new programs. And I can confirm I also have another shortcut put in the start menu next to the HBS folder: ![]() My shortcut was put in the user's start menu directory here on 15.06.2025: %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Hasleo Backup Suite.lnk And it is linked to "C:\Program Files\Hasleo\Hasleo Backup Suite\bin\BackupSystemTray.exe" Unfortunately I can't reproduce this in a VM, tried with different versions from the past and none created this link during installation. Not sure how it got placed there... *Edit: Sorry @pt58, didn't see your post before posting mine. Same issue I guess ![]() RE: Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - al3x - 08-14-2025 I was able to reproduce the issue: - HBS v5.4.2.0 introduced this bug, all versions before that don't create this shortcut. - Install any of the newer versions and restart your PC afterwards to make sure the HBS service is started correctly. - Create a new disk/partition backup schedule and run the schedule directly. As soon as the notification for the running schedule pops up, a new shortcut will be created in the start menu. So the execution of the BackupSystemTray.exe process probably creates this shortcut by mistake. RE: Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - Froggie - 08-14-2025 I always run HBS WITHOUT NOTIFICATIONS and have never had that issue. My money's on a Win10/11 update causing the issue... ![]() RE: Hasleo creates an additional entry in the Windows 11 "Start" menu - admin - 08-14-2025 (Yesterday, 12:01 AM)al3x Wrote: I was able to reproduce the issue: Strangely, BackupSystemTray.exe does not contain any code for creating shortcuts. But I could reproduce it on Windows 11 and also on 10, so this is not an issue with a recent Windows 11 update or something like that. - Windows 11: https://youtu.be/yYd93k5-1DY - Windows 10: https://youtu.be/JKTsY1Ul2Zk |
