Backwards compatibilty of Emergency Disk and Images - Epictetus - 10-04-2025

How far back does compatibility of Backup Image Files (DBI) go with the Emergency disk? That is, will an emergency disk made with the latest version of HBS, recognise and restore an image file made a year ago?, six months ago? AND vice versa - will a DBI file made now be recognised by an Emergency disk made a year ago, six months ago?

The emergency disk created by the new version will always be compatible with image files created by older versions (unless otherwise specified). However, emergency disks created by older versions may not be able to open image files created by the new version, as the structure of image file may change with program updates.
