Emergency disk creation - drivers
#1
I'm new here and probably a silly question, but how do I know which drivers I might need to inject into the emergency disk creation?

For me, the easiest solution is this...

Since an up-to-date WinPE has most of the drivers you may ever need, I would make an Emergency Disk with no extra driver insertions.  Then I would BOOT to that Emergency Disk and see if, first, I can see my images, and second, see if my target disks are available during restore (don't do the restore just see if the disk(s) you need are available during that process... you can always CANCEL and/or back out of the process).

Every time I've ever done this I've been go to go.  Occasionally your System may have a special disk that required a non-windows driver to operate... those are the drivers you may need.

Of course I'm an ol' fashioned kind of frog... Rolleyes

That's right, you can test it first, and if it doesn't recognize some of your hardware then you'll need to inject the appropriate drivers into WinPE when you create WinPE.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and attempted to create the Emergency Disk. First I tried a 2GB USB, unsure whether it would be big enough. In the Emergency Disk creation page, the USB showed up, so I selected that to create. Unfortunately the process failed early on with an error, so I assumed 2GB was not large enough, and tried an 8GB stick. This did not show up on the creation page, although it was visible and accessible in Windows Explorer. So, I saved the ISO and downloaded Rufus.
Using Rufus and the 8GB stick, the creation process threw up an error saying invalid parameter, but then continued to create the boot disk. On testing, this booted the laptop successfully and I could see the Hasleo image backup I had created on another disk. As I could see that not much space had been taken up on the USB, I then used the 2GB stick. Rufus did not throw an error this time, and again this USB booted successfully.
Now I have to trust that if the worst comes to the worst, and I do have to restore the image backup, that it will work correctly, as I have no way of testing the restore process, other than overwriting the working system, which I don't want to do, as I don't know if I have a foolproof way of getting the working system back. A bit of a Catch 22 situation!

We have analyzed the log file, regarding the failure to create an emergency disk using a 2GB USB flash drive, an error occurred while Hasleo Backup Suite was writing a file to the USB flash drive, which could be caused by instability of the USB flash drive. On January 14th, an 8G USB flash drive was connected to your computer, and then it appeared to be unplugged from the computer before running Hasleo Backup Suite. Please make sure the 8G USB flash drive is connected to the computer and try again to see if the problem still exists? Thanks.

Thanks for the speedy reply  Smile .  I tried the 8GB drive again and Hasleo still doesn't see it.  I tried another drive and Hasleo did see that one, so it obviously doesn't like that particular 8GB drive even though it appears OK otherwise.

This is so weird, please plug the 8G USB flash drive into your computer before running HBS, then run HBS and try to create the emergency disk, if the issue still persists please send us the log file again. Thanks.

Tried again, but still the same result. Log file sent.

Run "chkdsk" (no quotes...and with no options) on the 8 Gig USB drive.

chkdsk E: (whatever drive letter is assigned).

Post the results.
