Malware detected during the creation of the recovery disk
#1
Hello,

I updated Hasleo to the latest version, 5.8.2.0. When I try to create a recovery disk, Avast blocks the "BackupWorker.exe" file because it's infected with the "filerepmalware[misc]" threat. The recovery disk fails with an error.

VirusTotal doesn't detect anything related to this file, including Avast!

Is this a false positive?

This is 100% a false positive, I'd be extremely surprised if that was a correct result.

I reuploaded that file to VirusTotal and now I see AVG/Avast (both are the same company now) is the only tool flagging that file:

You might want to whitelist that file for now until a new scanner update hopefully unflags it again.
Not sure what triggers the scanner though, maybe @admin can have a look tomorrow.

@lavande,

In addition to what @al3x has already posted, I would like to provide some background.

The lack of digital signatures on Hasleo products has been discussed before, and will be addressed in the future.  That is what is causing these security software alerts.  The Hasleo files are safe, but until Hasleo pays a considerable sum of money to gain current digital signatures, this nuisance must be endured to run a first-class imaging program.  This enhancement is on the development "Road Map" of the Hasleo Team.

Hasleo has only started to "monetize" Hasleo Backup Suite, with a paid Pro version, which I purchased the first day it went on sale in late October.  Hasleo is a business, and it needs customers to support future development and enhancements, including paying for current digital signatures.

Their primary focus has been on product development, enhancements, and stability; and, understandably so, as a relatively new entrant into the imaging software community.  They have made incredible progress, and they are continuing to do so.

I encountered simultaneous warnings from SmartScreen, ESET Smart Security Premium, and Malwarebytes Standard Premium last week when I was trying run the Hasleo offline WinPE downloader to simplify and speed recreating Hasleo Backup Suite Recovery Media.

I plan to include that information soon, which will be available as a post in a new Topic: "Hasleo Backup Suite FAQs",to be created within days.  Some portions of the Hasleo Online Help file are very concise, so until the Hasleo Team can devote time to enhancing that, the new Topic should assist our users.  Assisting our users and customers is a Hasleo priority.

I hope that @al3x and I have been able to answer your question.

Have a great day.

Regards,
Phil

Dear @lavande,

I can only say that this is 100% a false positive. The online scan results are completely clean, and I have no idea what basis these antivirus programs have for flagging it as malware.
