Option: Smart Backup
#1
I was under the impression that this option allowed HBS to continue with scheduled tasks whenever an unscheduled change occurred within the System Backup partition set... essentially allowing HBS to continue automatically whenever the infamous Windows update/upgrade occurs, changing the geometry of both the Recovery Partition and the shrinking of the OS partition to accommodate that change.

I just manually shrunk the OS partition (in preparation for configuring a TRIPLE BOOT System) and tested the above assumption and wound up with the following error...  Specified partition not found (0x25CC003600000001)...  the option appears to fail.

I guess my question is... does this option only take effect prior to a new task being created or does it affect existing tasks prior to setting the option?

Thanks for your help with this!

Edit: just realized this was done under v5.9.0.0alpha as well as some serious restore issues using same Emergency Media.  Will return to v5.8.2.1 and retest.

Re-ran the test above under v5.8.2.1... error msg the same with the following code (Ox25810036000000E9).  No restore issues using v5.8.2.1 Emergency Disk.

As before, any help, greatly appreciated.

@Froggie,

The "Smart Backup" option is fully applicable to existing tasks. Regarding the 'Specified partition not found' issue, we'll need you to provide the log file to further analyze the possible reasons.

You mentioned that v5.9.0.0alpha ED has some serious recovery issues. Could you describe them in detail? If possible, provide the log file.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

I have no LOG from the v5.9.0.0a ED restore attempt but can probably reproduce if necessary.  The error message in the ED session mentioned an inter-process communication failure of some sort which I have never seen before

All other LOGs have been forwarded to Support.

Just retested v5.9.0.0a ED and couldn't reproduce the Inter-process communication failure.  I did remember that the attempt to restore the full size OS partition was done in Advanced Mode by selecting both the shrunken OS partition and the unallocated space after it (from the halving) as the target.

I retried both the Advanced Mode Partition restore described above and a standard restore to the halved existing OS partition and both worked without incident.

Have no idea what happened  Huh... moving on  Rolleyes

Just so you know what you're dealing with as far as SUPPORT is concerned... my original SMART BACKUP issue has already been dealt with (a test version solved the issue).  I'm sure the "fix" will be in the next update.

My THANKS to SUPPORT!
