Restore from NAS
#1
Hi, I am a new user to Hasleo having come from using Macrium Reflect.

I can make a system backup to my Synology NAS by mapping network drive from Windows 11 but not having any success accessing the NAS from the boot menu to be able to restore. I'm told that the network path is unavailable.

The boot menu uses winPE which I believe does not include wifi drivers. There's an option to include .inf driver's but my INF folder in windows 11 has dozens of files which means nothing to me.

My question is can I and how do I add wifi drivers so I can access my NAS.

TIA

@Tungsten,

Welcome to the Hasleo forum.

When creating the WinPE, you can click 'Add Driver' to manually select the drivers you want to inject into the WinPE.

When creating the WinPE, do not check the "Download WinPE components" option. Leaving it unchecked will use the built-in WinRE.wim from Windows to create the WinPE, which provides better wireless network support.

On the Tools page, click 'PE Network Manager' to open the PENetwork application, which allows you to configure the wireless network in WinPE.

Best regards,

Hi, I have tried both ways to create the boot menu either by downloading or by not downloading. Both give the same problem accessing my NAS. I looked for an .inf driver to ADD but there are dozens of them in the INF folder in windows I have no idea which to use.

I should mention that this is only happening on my Lenovo Ideapad laptop. My Dell Inspiron desktop can access my NAS but it is using ethernet connection.

I forgot to say that I do not see 'PE Network Manager' on the Tools page

I found the PE Network Manger tool but wifi is disabled so I don't seem to be able to configure anything.

You need to install the appropriate driver based on the wireless network card your computer uses. Please check the Lenovo website or contact Lenovo to get the right driver. Thanks.

I've been able to find and install the correct WIFI driver. After configuring the settings in PE Network Manager I can now access the NAS over WIFI.

However PE Network Manger does not save the configuration settings so these have to be be re-entered every time the boot menu is opened.

Is this normal?

This is normal. PENetwork is a third-party app and doesn't save settings anyway, plus WinPE is read-only. Thanks.
