How can I boot a existing VHD?
Posted by: Albert Voss - 04-04-2019, 06:49 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (5)

I have several external USB devices (cheap SSDs in UGREEN USB 3.0 enclosures) that can boot to Windows 10. But as most of our PCs are on 1809 already I cannot simply clone those PCs to an WinToUSB device. HASLEO says that to produce a bootable USB device one can use VHDs. I tried with differrent PC backups that I made with Disk2VHD and so far use with VMware Player installed on the device specific external SSD. I hope that I could increase speed when booting these VHDs directly and not via a virtual machine player.
Is this possible with WinToUSB?

Bootable Windows clone with resored C Partition
Posted by: Albert Voss - 04-02-2019, 05:50 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

I have made several backup devices with WinToUSB that can run the full Windows installation of their PCs. But I had no success so far with the notebook of my wife. As the second best solution I made an clean installation of 1809 with WTU 4.6 to an external SSD which can boot the notebook wihout any Problems. And in this fresh Windows I then start a backup of the Notebook in VHD Format from VMware Player 15. It works but is a little bit too much for my wife.
As I have bought only one License for WinToUSB Pro so far, I would like to know whether I can get a running Windows installation clone. For instance by replacing the Windows Partition that WTU installs on the external device with a backup from a backup and restore Programm or a partition copy with software for that. My first attempt with EaseUS Todo did not produce a bootable device.
Is there a way to get this running?

WinToUSB under Windows 7 attempting to apply Windows 10 .ISO file to MBR, UEFI or both in combination to VHD file on USB thumb drive generates error message "Failed to extract file from the WIM file. Please temporarily deactivate your anti-virus software , and try again.."

^^^^^^With no anti-virus software running... Multiple Thumb Drives...  Multiple .ISO files...  Is there a resolution to this??

How to make a blank laptop SATA hard disk to Windows to Go as external drive?
Posted by: kkjkkj1 - 03-09-2019, 09:07 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (7)

I have a blank SATA laptop hard drive and I want to make it Windows to Go. I have made it external USB drive by using a hard drive USB enclosure/caddy. I have tried all methods to make it Windows to Go but after everything (installation/making phase) completed, it failed to boot/run windows. I have already tried "USB Flash Drive" method and "External Drive" method and "Internal Drive" method (after creating System and Boot partitions) 100 times but nothing worked. Installation got completed 100% but unable to boot/run windows from same drive.

Please note, its a SATA 2.5 inch laptop internal hard drive which is converted to an external hard drive through a USB enclosure/caddy.

Please guide step-by-step..i.e..how to format..how to install..how to run. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Who has experience backing up a drive created with WintoUSB ?
I've tried AOMEI Backupper Standard and Macrium Reflect. Both don't like
the Windows to Go drive . These work properly on my internal drive in Windows 10 1803.
 I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks

  Hidden boot entries
Posted by: poposter1 - 03-08-2019, 10:25 AM - Forum: EasyUEFI - Replies (4)

Hello,

after creating boot entry with EasyUEFI, it becomes "Hidden" after reboot, or it gets DELETED completely!

Is there any idea why this is happening?

0xc000000f the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible
Posted by: cad4567 - 03-04-2019, 01:18 AM - Forum: WinToHDD - Replies (4)

Hello:
I am trying to clone a 500GB HDD (internal) because of intermittent problems to my other 500GB HDD (internal) using WintoHDD. The clone process goes through without a hitch but when I restart with the cloned drive after removing the main drive, I get the following error message (as the subject of this post) - 0xc000000f the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I have an HP Laptop dv7. Put the cloned drive into the 1st bay as is required for the boot to work.
I have tried cloning twice. The first time I did it with the System and boot partition in one and the second time the boot partition and system partition (1GB allocated) in two separate partition. The current set up is shown in the attached HDDPartition image.
Would appreciate if you could help in resolving the above issue.
Regards,
Dave

128 Gb and getting not enough space in Windows 10
Posted by: irob - 02-06-2019, 08:58 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

Hello,
I successfully installed windows 10 Pro on a 128 Gb Sandisk USB thumb drive.
It works flawlessly, however every now and the I get a message in Windows saying that I do not have enough free space in the drive where the VHDX file is.
How is it possible?
Does Windows 10 Pro really take 128 Gb of space?

Please help.
Thank you!
iR

  Which drive should I encrypt?
Posted by: irob - 02-05-2019, 11:46 AM - Forum: Hasleo BitLocker Anywhere (Encrypt Windows C: drive and data partitions, For Windows, Mac and Linux) - Replies (7)

Hello,
I just bought:
WintoUSB
Bitlock Anywhere.

I was able to successfully use WintoUSB ad install Windows 10 Pro on a Sandisk Extreme Pro USB Thumb Drive.
I would like to install Bitlock and Encrypt the Windows on the USB.
When I start Bitlock Anywhere it shows the hard disk (C: My computer) and 2 removable drives D: (this contains Boot, EFI, Bootmgr) and E: (WintoUSB which contains a file Win2USB.VHDX).

Which one should I select?

Thanks
iR
