  Hung at "Checking for Updates"
Posted by: dnbdave - 01-12-2016, 01:55 AM - Forum: WinToHDD - Replies (3)

Installed/running on a Win10 Enterprise VM, the update check dialog pops and does not complete. Can't be cancelled. Not frozen hung, but spinning endlessly instead.

Pretty sure firewall or AV is catching/blocking it though whitelisting doesn't help. Any commandline switch I can pass to bypass the initial update check at first run?

Thanks.

Posted by: morphin - 01-06-2016, 02:14 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (4)

Hello. First i wanna say thank you for doing this!! This program works great!

I made Windows 8.1 & 7 usb.
I'm using Sandisk Ultra fit 16 gb usb 3.0 && Your recommended usb (Sandisk Extreme)
They were both working very well. I tried 4-5 different pc and works fine.

But ! i made this usb for few HP thin client. I have 4 different model hp client (They have different cpu, ram or chipset)
3 model works fine with same usb! But 1 model stuck at Boot logo!

I tried with "wintoflash" software & usb 2.0 && "legacy usb install" without "VHD" as well and it stucks same place!
I select to Secure boot and windows stucks at "disk.sys" I searched about this problem but i didnt find solution.

So i can't figure out why only this model STUCKS!!! And why its stuck at "disk.sys" ?

There is the doesnt work Client model and specification: (I tried 2 same model (t5740) both stucks at boot.)
HP Thin Client: t5740 (i think its VU899AA)

There is working models:
HP Compaq t5570 (has via cpu still works!)
HP Compaq t5730

Please! I need help guys!  Huh
P.S: Sorry for my english.

  Disk Disappears
Posted by: spyke01 - 01-05-2016, 09:13 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (3)

I have created the Fat32 and NTFS partions on my Visiontek SSD Thumb drive and then ran WinToUSB and the install completed. Once this was done I tried to boot using the drive and it didn't show as a bootable option. I then booted back into windows and cannot find the drive in Disk Management. The drive is detected (shows in safely remove devices) but I can't access the partitions. If I do Rescan Disks the system just hangs. I then tried accessing the drive using a gparted live cd but it won't let me change the partitions or format at all. It appears to have killed the drive.

This is the second drive that this has happened to, any ideas on a fix?

  Unable to delete boot option
Posted by: zhanhao - 01-04-2016, 08:02 PM - Forum: EasyUEFI - Replies (2)

Hi guys,

I'm currently trying to remove my Ubuntu Grub Boot Loader from my UEFI boot option. I've tried using EasyUEFI to remove the 2 ubuntu boot options, but I only managed to remove one of it. I keep trying to delete the other ubuntu option as shown in EasyUEFI, and it allows me to delete. However, after I restart my laptop, the same ubuntu boot option still remains in my UEFI...I've tried doing this process for a few times but I still can't seem to delete it. Can someone please advise me on this?

Below are the details of my boot option:
Description:ubuntu
GPT partition GUID:{82764F10-62A6-41AC-9574-432708513E65}
Partition number:1
Partition starting sector:2048
Partition ending sector:616447
File path:EFI\Ubuntu\grubx64.efi

Thanks!

Works like a charm, but still some questions
Posted by: wim122 - 12-31-2015, 07:30 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - No Replies

Hello,

I've just installed Windows 10 using WinToUsb Free edition on a Sandisk CZ80 64GB. It was super easy to install (all thanks to WinToUSB) and my new Windows environment works like a charm (very fast!).

There are just a couple of questions I still have... could anyone share his/her opinion please?

  1. Flash disk lifetime. Is the limited number of write cycles of a non-certified USB stick like the Sandisk, something to worry about? I've turned off defragmentation, search-indexing and hibernation, which should minimize unnecessary writing according to some websites I've googled. But of course there is still activity to the USB disk every few seconds due to background processes, so I wonder, how worried should I am? I'm hoping to use the Windows stick perhaps about 1,5 hours every day.
  2. VHDx support. I'm using the latest version (2.7 I think) of WinToUSB. VHDx is one of the shown options, but it is greyed out. How can I make it available?
  3. Backups. Does it make sense to make backups of the VHD file? Or is my windows-to-go really "tied" to the stick, and won't I be able to recover it if the flash disk would fail and I only have a backup of the VHD file?
  4. Sandisk vs. USB drive. How does a stick like the Sandisk CZ80 compare to a "simple" (WD elements or WD passport Ultra or so) USB 3.0 drive? Flash stick is of course much more compact and much more expensive per GB, but how does performance and reliability compare? Perhaps a USB hard drive is more reliable since it doesn't suffer from limited write cycles?
  5. Disconnections. What happens if I (or my 1,5 years old toddler running around) would accidentally unplug the Sandisk? Am I really using Windows-to-go (despite the VHD approach) which supposedly would "pause" for 60 seconds? Or do I risk damage?

Sorry for the many questions, thanks for your insights, and thanks to the developers of WinToUSB for such a great software!

Wim

  Internal HDD to External HDD
Posted by: Diverene - 12-30-2015, 06:26 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (3)

Huh Hi there.

I would like to install in my HP Laptop 8740 a SSD evo850 and use the currend HDD with WIN7 pro x64 installed on it as an external USB 3.0 Boot HDD.
On the internal SSD I will install WIN10 pro x64.
I would like to make a dual boot, WIN7 external and WIN10 internal.
My question is: can I make my internal HDD external bootable without loss of my data and installed programms?
I have read the instructions but didn't find my answer (or didn't understand it Angel ).

Thanx in advance!

  BSOD after Win7 SP1 update?
Posted by: toddk63 - 12-17-2015, 01:34 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (7)

I have successfully installed WintoUSB / Win 7 Ultimate on a WD Passport 1TB USB drive running off of a Dell Laptop (Latitude e6120 ?).  The laptop only has USB 2, no USB 3.0.  After many updates (no problems) and then the SP1 big update I get BSOD "Stop: 0x00000050" after the Win7 splash screen. There is no further info as to which file or driver is causing this. So then I found the Win 7 ISO with SP1 on it already.  This seemed to work as well, then after a couple of updates...BSOD!  It will boot in Safe Mode. There is no minidump file generated. I need to check if minidump is enabled. I have uninstalled the last 4 Windows updates, but one of them, KB2515325, keeps re-installing itself on reboot even though I have selected "No automatic install..."  This is suspicious.

I've seen lots of threads about BSOD from trying to boot WintoUSB/Win7 from USB 3.0 but nothing like I have described.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Todd K.
