When an image looks at what's changed and what already exists, for delta restore purposes, HBS is looking at the altered blocks right? That's not the same things as altered files. So, it seems there's no way to determine what files are on those changed blocks, only that the block have indeed been altered from the previous backup image.
Is that correct? (02-23-2026, 04:55 AM)n8chavez Wrote: When an image looks at what's changed and what already exists, for delta restore purposes, HBS is looking at the altered blocks right? Yes, your understanding is correct, disk backup focuses on changed data blocks rather than changed files. Of course, the program can reverse-lookup the changed files based on the changed data blocks, but this is complex and time-consuming, and I don't think it's a good design. Besides, we still have more important features to complete at the moment.

Hi I just got word from a friend who told me his backup drive is full. So I took look at it and write what were the problems: Hasleo Backup wasn’t on V 5.6.2.0 because he never got any automatic info from Hasleo that there was an update available (while using the pc mainly as SUA) The drive ran full because Hasleo couldn’t do 20 Full Backups on a drive fit only for 10. That would be ok IF Hasleo would then rather delete the oldest backups and put as many on as posible or atleast give a warning that would show up while running on SUA and not loging into Hasleo as admin to see the failed backup task. Instead Hasleo silently stopped doing backups at all (and that's not ok). I forgot to took screenshots but it was Win 11pro 25H2 and the Hasleo Version just before 5.6.2.0 Tldr: Hasleo should make users more aware of failed backups and outstanding updates because he never recognized his last working backup was from january. To be honest I would expect a backup software to throw big warning screens of failed backup tasks and not silently say: Drive full fxxx you no more backups for you. Otherwise novice users may be left in the rain without working backups. The user didn't see failed backups at all and only called because his drive was full. |
