Newbie - System vs Disk Partition Image Clarification
#1
Hi,
Potential new user here and I'd like some clarification, so it doesn't bite me in the anatomy down the road. Smile

If I want to restore and have a bootable Windows system, I should make an image using System Backup which selects the necessary partitions to include in the image.  However, my test indicated that I cannot add unnecessary data partitions to this image and am restricted to Windows only as indicated by "System Backup".

Since I may also want to include a data partition or two, I select the Disks/Partitions which allows me to select any or all the partitions on the disk.

So, is the following true?
If I'm careful and ensure I have all the necessary Windows system partitions included along with any desired data partitions, I can restore Windows to a bare disk along with any desired data partitions and have a bootable system. (There is a warning about something similar but I think it really is warning against restoring C only and thinking the PC will boot without the smaller partitions)

Yes, the system backup will automatically select and backup the necessary Windows system partitions, and the current version does not support adding additional partitions to the system backup image.

If all necessary Windwos operating system partitions are on the same disk and you have chosen all necessary Windwos operating system partitions carefully enough, technically Windows will be able to boot normally after the restore and you can add other data partitions to that backup. However, when restoring, you have to select the whole disk to restore to ensure that Windows will boot normally, restoring the Windows partition separately will result in Windows not booting normally.

We strongly recommend that you create a separate backup task for the Windows system and data partitions.

Thanks for the helpful info, CDC9762. Good to know that restoring the whole disk is the safer route for boot issues. I was wondering the same thing about mixing data partitions into a system image. Appreciate the clarification!

In case of mixed system and data partitions, you need to make sure that all Windows partitions are restored to the disk at once.
