everything went well up to
reagentc /enable

"REAGENTC.EXE: The Windows RE image was not found."

the command reagentc /disable had reported success

I then did a full recreate successfully following the steps I found at pureinfotech . com

That would mean something went wrong during the disable step.
Normally this should throw an error or report something like "WinRE is already disabled".

If you disable WinRE successfully, Windows normally writes back the WinRE.wim file from the RE partition to C:\Windows\System32\Recovery.
When you renable it, it gets moved away to the new RE partition.

That's why disabling is so important before removing the RE partition.

Yeah, it's quite easy to get WinRE back up running:
  • Get yourself a current ISO of Windows 11 (ideally the same build you're currently running)
  • Use 7zip to navigate inside the ISO to \sources\install.wim
  • Open install.wim and navigate to any index [1-10] and then \Windows\System32\Recovery\
  • Extract Winre.wim and ReAgent.xml
  • Save both files to C:\Windows\System32\Recovery\
Then reagentc will find the image again and enabling should work.
