Definition of Free Lifetime Upgrades
#1
Though this question may be relative to other versions, I'll only reference the Pro version herein.

I see that the current price for a Pro license is US $54.95, and it includes "Enjoy free lifetime upgrades."  I am writing to ask exactly what this means.  Does this mean the license will be valid for any Pro version of HBS moving forward?  FOREVER?  I have a difficult time understanding that business model long term, so I'd like to be sure I understand properly.  And I'd like to feel assured that Pro won't be replaced with something like "Pro Plus" in the future, negating a "free lifetime upgrade" license of the Pro version.

I have another question.  The comparison chart indicates "Number of licensed computers: 1 PC."  Can a license be transferred to a different PC?  And how difficult is this process?  I'm planning on building/purchasing a PC in about a year and would like to know if I buy a license now if it would be valid on the replacement PC.  (Still only used on one PC - my current PC would be recycled.)

And finally, does Hasleo have any intentions of releasing a "multi pack" license with a deep discount?  Like, if I wanted to purchase, for instance, a set of 4 licenses so I can use the software on multiple computers in my household?

Thanks for any clarification.  And congratulations on moving forward toward the important step - monetization.

Ok, I found a copy of the license agreement for HBS Pro in the bin folder at the installation point of the software after upgrading to Free v5.5.2.0. It says, "- LICENSEE may not transfer the SOFTWARE from one computer to another if the SOFTWARE is already installed and registered on one computer."

So, I understand the business model better now. This answers my question regarding removing a Pro license from one computer and transferring it to a different computer. This information also basically renders my other question regarding replacing "Pro with Pro Plus (or something similar)" unnecessary, since I now understand now the long-term financial business model works.

I'd still like to know if there are any future plans with regard to discounted "multi pack purchases" for simple end users (like me) though.

In principle, the professional license only allows you to activate the software on one computer and you may not transfer the license from one computer to another if the software is already installed and registered on one computer. In fact, all of our product licenses include this clause, but we usually help users reset their license keys when they change computers. However, if the user changes the computer frequently, we think this is unreasonable, in which case he may refuse to reset the license.

Regarding lifetime free upgrades, we have never broken our promise over the past decade. Regarding the "multi-pack purchases" you mentioned, this is possible.

Pro Plus, well, that's a good idea.

Unreasonable - agreed.

Thank you for the information and clarification; Your response completely addressed my concerns and questions.

If everyone were to view us through the same lens they use to see our competitors, we might eventually become just like them. We remain steadfast in our commitment, as always.

I did find that I'd like to make a statement though. I liked how the previous imaging software I used allowed me to deactivate a license to temporarily use it on another device. I used that option infrequently to conduct tests (mostly of the imaging software, to report back to the developers) and for some backup purposes on temporary virtual machines - a process that would become very expensive if I had to purchase a new license for every temporary virtual machine I created.

However, there are other ways and I only very infrequently used this ability. Plus, in the case of HBS the Free version would cover these needs - other than the testing, of course.

Your actions appear to be for commercial purposes. Frankly, commercial use should be paid for. Why not consider the enterprise version? For personal users, the free version is sufficient to meet your needs. Thanks.

No, not for commercial purposes at all. I'm just a simple guy who enjoys puttering around on the computer. And when Macrium Reflect was in its infancy I was puttering around doing testing for them and making suggestions to help them out. I was not paid for my efforts, short of the kind free gifts they sent me back in the day. I got family and friends onboard with Macrium Reflect and purchased extra licenses for Reflect I didn't need just to support Macrium. Those licenses are still valid. I've recently decided to walk away from Macrium though, for personal reasons I don't feel it appropriate to get into here. I've been looking for a replacement for over a year, and have been using/testing HBS since my first post on this forum.

And now... The Free version of HBS would suite me just fine. But, as with Macrium in the past, I purchased a Pro license only to support Hasleo. I want to make it very clear though, I do not run a business not am I associated with any business which uses HBS. I am just a simple end user.
