Just installed the latest MS 2nd Tuesday Security Update KB5089549, and reinstalled the original HBS V5.8.2.0. Successfully performed as full System Backup. Yeah! "VSSadmin list writers" successfully completed after reboot, 15 minutes later, and after the backup.

It seems that MS have fixed the VSS problem, but will continue to monitor its status over the next few days.

I too installed the mentioned update and did the same tests and got the same successful results =)

This KB5089549 update is not optional and automatically installs. So, official latest HBS now seems to work on up-to-date windows 11 machines.

Please check whether you have selected the "Smart Backup" option on the advanced page of the backup options. If it is not selected, please enable it. If this option is not enabled, when the geometry of one or more partitions to be backed up changes (for example, when a system upgrade causes the recovery partition to grow larger), the backup will fail.
