When a system image is mounted is there a way to access the protected folders? The access is needed to restore some of the folders in C:\Users\me\* that were stored in a previous build.

Mount the image as writeable. It won't make any changes to the actual image file if you DO write something though.

Additionally to the answer Gork already gave, you can also try to start a program like 7-Zip as admin and try to access the folder that way. Usually the administrator group should have access to the Users directory, so that should work, too.

I use this method to get access the protected Users' files in images made on a different computer from the one I am using the image on. Ie., mount image as writeable using HBS, then use 7-zip (or similar) running as administrator to get in to the image and copy files from it, etc.
This might be another suitable topic for the FAQ lists being put together - Froggie, garioch7..

@Epictetus,
Thank you for your suggestion. I have added it to the list of proposed HBS FAQs Topic posts. I would prefer to receive PMs of proposed FAQ posts. It is easier for me to keep track of them. In your PM, please include the link to the HBS Forum Topic post for ease of reference. By way of clarification, my understanding is that @Froggie is NOT writing the HBS Online Help Tutorials. He is simply copying updates from the Online Tutorials to add them to his .pdf file to keep it synced with the HBS Online Help Tutorials. Posts recommending improvements to the HBS Online Help Tutorials are always welcome, but they have to done by the HBS Help Technical Writer first. Then @Froggie will update his .pdf version of the revised HBS Online Help Tutorials. If my understanding is incorrect, I hope that someone will correct me. Have a great day. Regards, Phil |
