[Test Help Needed] Temp Fix for Backup Image Mount Driver (Test Mount Functionality)
#1
Exclamation
Hello everyone,

Recently, a vulnerability was discovered in the driver used for mounting system/disk/partition backup images. Specifically, sending a particular driver control command can trigger a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). We have created a temporary patched version that replaces the driver file.

Since this driver involves low-level operating system operations, the fix needs to be validated in various environments. We sincerely ask for your help in testing, with a focus on whether the "mount image" functionality works correctly.

Test Items:
  1. Download and install the patched version. During installation, check whether Windows gives any driver signature warning.
  2. Check whether you can successfully mount an existing backup image (system/disk/partition backup).
  3. After mounting, is reading and browsing files within the image normal?
  4. Is unmounting the image normal?
  5. Do you encounter any BSOD, freeze, or other anomalies?

Casual statement:
This issue is completely unrelated to the backup failures caused by recent Windows updates (KB5083769/KB5083631) or the Macrium psmounterex.sys driver vulnerability.

Thank you to everyone willing to help test! Your feedback directly affects the quality of the final release.

Best regards,
The Hasleo Software Team

That did it. Successfully mounted both a System Image and a Partition. Reading and browsing was fine.

Hi,

tests were also successful for me. Partition Image and File mounting without problems, tested with and without write access.

Tested on:
  • Windows 11 Pro Canary 29585.1000
  • Windows 11 Pro 25H2 26200.8457
  • Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.7291
  • Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 6.1.7601

On Windows 10, Defender asked for a sample submission of libxml2.dll and libcurl.dll, but continued normally:

The following driver was updated if I see this correctly:

Code:
Name              : hasldisk
Display Name      : Hasleo Virtual Disk Driver
File Description  : HasleoDisk Virtual Disk Driver
File Version      : 2.1.2.66
Company           : Olof Lagerkvist
Product Name      : hasldisk
Description       : Disk Emulation Driver
Filename          : C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\hasldisk.sys

Are you planning to also update the Dokan2 driver with this new release? It's still on 2.1.0.1000:

Code:
Name              : Dokan2
Display Name      : Dokan2 Userspace Filesystem Driver
File Description  : Dokan Driver
File Version      : 2.1.0.1000
Company           : Dokan Project
Product Name      : Dokan
Description       : File System Driver
Filename          : C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\dokan2.sys

Thanks!

Greetings!  Tested on (2) configurations (most diverse available)...

Hardware: Intel i7-10700, 32gB RAM
Software:  W10 IoT Ent LTSC@21H2 (19044.7291)

Hardware: Ryzen 3 3200u, 16gB RAM
Software:  W11 IoT Ent LTSC@24H2 (26100.8246)

All was well during tests, as expected.  The i7 was fully updated (incl MAY).  Tried to update the Ryzen but following MAY update, hard failure to BOOT due to Code Integrity issue (thanks MicroSloth Huh ).  Restored the Ryzen back to its April configuration before test (thanks HASLEO).

Step by step, inch by inch... went back and manually installed the updates (one at a time) on the above Ryzen configuration.  No problem BOOTing when done (all MAY UPDs applied) and no HASLEO driver issues with test version, all as expected.

I was able to successfully mount and dismount without error, after restarting. Everything seemewd normal to me; navigating within and copying from the mount seemed like normal.
