Residual HBS Systray Icon (after sleep)
#1
Question
Just curious if this happens to anyone else?

This has been observed since using HBS over several versions, on multiple Win11 PC's.

After my Files and/or Image backup tasks run in the middle of the night, I have the tasks set to put the PC's back to sleep.  The next morning, I always have to mouse-over (hover over) the HBS icon in the Windows Systray, to make it go-away.  I have all HBS apps set to wait 10 seconds before putting the client back to sleep, which seems to be the limit in the GUI.

There is always one residual icon in the systray for each HBS task that ran overnight; again a simple mouse-over makes them go-away, so it's a nuisance observation more than anything else.

Thanks,

That is odd. I cannot confirm that issue, at least with my system. After scheduled tasks run, I do not see an HBS icon in my system tray. I'm curious, are you using any system tray or explorer modifier; like StartAllBack or anything similar? I'm thinking something other than HBS is causing that behavior.

This may not be an HBS issue, but rather a Windows issue.  I see the same thing with the OneDrive icon in the system tray often. Especially after updates, I may see 2 or 3 OneDrive icons in the system tray. Hovering over each OneDrive icon makes them go away, except for the remaining active icon.

If it is a Windows issue, resetting the systemtray icons might help.

In regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
then delete IconStreams and`PastIconsStream
Now, either restart your system or kill and restart Explorer.exe

That should help.

Nope, just a standard Win11 Pro installation updated to 25H2 on both PC's.

Thanks.  I still think it odd that it happens on both PC's, rebuilt over a year ago, and I've never seen this behavior prior to HBS. But I'll give the regedit a try.

FWIW, prior to recently switching to HBS, my prior backup software ran the same way; files and image backups run overnight and each task puts the PC back to sleep.  I never once saw an icon in the systray the next day.  I used that backup solution on these same PC's for about 10 years.

@jordanac265,

Thank you for your detailed feedback.

We will try to reproduce the issue in our internal environment. If it is confirmed that the issue is caused by HBS itself, we will arrange a fix as soon as possible.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Very nice and appreciated.  Again, it's just a very minor cosmetic observation that makes you wonder, "huh..."    Big Grin
