What does this setting do?
"Bypass specific snapshot failures by excluding all VSS writers"
Hi,
This is a global setting that was introduced in version 5.8.2.1 in May. The changelog says: "Added a global setting to create VSS snapshots without using VSS writers" The exact technical details were not disclosed. What this will do is back up your Windows with VSS snapshots but without relying on VSS writers, which basically skips the notification for other apps that might have registered themselves to get notified if a VSS snapshot is made. This is done by using a workaround Microsoft officially supplied. Usually this should not be ticked. Normal VSS snapshots provide a good and safe way to make sure you get an exact copy of the drive in your backup. And this also makes sure that all apps get notified beforehand to do whatever is needed to make sure the VSS snapshot is consistent. But if you get specific problems with VSS and the "Repair VSS" option under "Tools" doesn't help either, you can try ticking that global option. Here's an explanation and discussion about that option which was first introduced in a beta and then included in version 5.8.2.1 a few days later: https://www.easyuefi.com/forums/thread-4...l#pid13006 |
