[Archived] Hasleo Backup Suite V5.9.2.4 Released!
#11
All this validation testing integrity is nothing more than a point in time ruling on the recent image taken.  This may have little or no meaning at a later time when the image is really needed.

There are all kinds of buggy things that affect data on the surface (HDDs) and the internal blocks of an SSD as well as internal/external System connections that may change over time.  With HDDs, bitrot is something many users experience.  Internal System I/O connections (RAM seating, disk I/O cables, etc.) are also something many users experience.

For me, the simplest most complete and automatic method (image block structure checks) is more than adequate for a recent image taken.  After that, over time, the whole thing may be a crapshoot... IMHO.

Bitrot is more typically associated with SSD's rather than HDD's.

Bitrot does exist, but the probability is quite low. That's exactly why we recommend storing multiple backup images in different locations or on different media, so that even if one copy gets corrupted, you still have other copies to fall back on.
