Scheduled Manual FULL Image after Disk Geometry Change
#21
I went back and turned on NOTIFICATIONS, then ran a manual INC against a 5-partition task that had a 2-partition geometry change.  The INC completed successfully with no errors and the proper notifications occurred (Start/End) after turning them back on.

I also tried a manual task FULL with the same result.  Both images have the 2-changed partitions missing from the image (according to the RESTORE visual window showing the partitions in the image to be restored).

If there's something else I can try, pls let me know...

Just some speculation from my side:

When you first encountered the unselected partitions in the task configuration, you probably clicked "Save" to exit and that updated the task.
And since that task update, you basically confirmed the unchecked partitions as a new configuration that now runs without errors.

You could view logs and scroll down a bit, there should be entries where the backup didn't work. But because of your disabled notifications you probably didn't see those.

I never encountered any offer to SAVE anything.  I made some geometry changes to my OS & RE partitions, then ran a manual FULL from the "Actions/Backup" DropDown of that task to insure I had a good new chain started (something I always do when I change the geometry of my imaging tasks (more than one app).  When the FULL completed, the size was very small in the FULL operation window.  That peaked my curiosity.  I then looked at the size of the FULL image and found it very small.  I them started a RECOVER operation so I could look at the image graphic... it only had (3) of my (5) partitions in it.

No indication of an issue of any kind.  Every image from that task since has those (2) geometrically changed partitons missing.

The Notifications (on/off) had no effect on symptoms or error indications.

Well that’s odd then. Can’t reproduce that on my side, it always throws errors for me. I think more details about the exact changes would be required then. Maybe your tool has an unusual way to change partitions. Can you reproduce that problem in a VM? Maybe that will help the devs then.

Regarding this issue, our latest proposal is to add a checkbox to the disk control on the backup source selection page (specifically for disk/partition backups), as shown in the image below. If the customer selects all partitions on a disk and enables this option, Hasleo Backup Suite will automatically reselect all partitions upon detecting changes.

We currently use "Always back up the entire disk" to describe this feature. Is there a better way to phrase this functionality?

Nice idea! So this checkbox is greyed out until all partitions are selected?

Maybe "Auto-select new or changed partitions.".
But let's see if someone has a better idea  Wink

Yes, we need some time to modify the code to implement this feature.

If I read this right, I don't see this solution covering all cases.  The specific case I mentioned, which is very common, is the use of the DISK/PARTITION backup but not with ALL PARTITIONS SELECTED (a feature you allow use of in that backup mode).  If your solution includes partial partition selection (not all) as well as ALL partition selection, then it will suffice.  If not, there's still a glaring hole in the offered solution.  If it does cover the partial selected partition case, The CheckBox description should state... "Always backup SELECTED partitions"

Hasleo Backu Suite will always back up the selected partitions under any circumstances, so this seems unnecessary.
