Newbie - Backup of computer with dual drives
#1
I have a computer with dual drives.

The C drive contains Windows, and some programs that I couldn't install on a different drive. The D drive contains the user libraries, and programs that allowed me to install on the drive of my choice.

What are the tradeoffs (or recommendations) about backing both drives up in the system backup vs. doing a system backup for the C drive, and a file backup for the D drive (file backup because there are files I want to exclude from the backup)?

Also, aside from storing copies of my encryption keys/certificates elsewhere for recovery, is there experience or input about recovering Windows 11 Home with BitLocker encrypted drives?

We recommend that you create a separate backup for the system and data partition. Regarding creating a backup for the data partition, if only a small portion of files need to be excluded from that partition, we still recommend using disk/partition backup, as it is faster than file backup and disk/partition backup provides the option to exclude files. Overall, we should only use file backup when backing up a small portion of files within a partition.

If Windows is abnormally corrupted, in many cases it is impossible to repair the system, even though Microsoft provides Windows recovery tools. Therefore, it is necessary to keep passwords and recovery keys safe, so that at least you can use BitLocker data recovery software (such as Hasleo Data Recovery) to recover important files when Windows cannot be repaired.

Thanks for the guidance on the separate backups. I don't see the option within the disk/partition backup to exclude files. Did you mean the disk/partition restore?

If Windows 11 isn't abnormally corrupted, are restores with BitLocker encryption typically successful provided the necessary encryption keys/certificates?

For excluding files from disk/partition backup, please refer to:

I'm not quite sure what you mean, are you referring to using the Windows recovery tool for restoration? I apologize that we have no experience with this.
