I have experienced the problem and am in deep research. It would be good for others experiencing this problem to report on their configuration and backup programs running. I experienced the problem with HBS in both file and image backups, but I think the activity causing the problem is external to HBS.
All indications are that VSS has failed. When this happens "vssadmin list writers" run from an elevated prompt fails to complete. This would be similar to the backups being stuck. The steps to get the service working again have been posted elsewhere.
I have 3 PC's doing backups. Two of them experience this problem but the 3rd is error free. I have a suspicion on what may be happening beside something that changed in the identified KB.

I am inclined to agree with @bespoken. I ran HBS on Friday, with that update installed. I had no issues with either computer, but that might be because I had done the registry edit to turn off vulnerable driver blocking in the Malwarebytes post ... ? I also only do full disk, including all partitions, images weekly.
I was willing to accept the registry tweak risk, since I do not install "dodgy" software; in fact, I only very seldom download any new software, perhaps three times year, and I do my research beforehand. I also have a lot of faith in my ESET Smart Security Home Premium, and my Malwarebytes Standard Premium to catch anything. Both protested about the Hasleo PE Downloader because of the lack of current signatures. With that security, and my regular offline imaging, I think I am reasonably secure.
Have a great day.
Regards,
Phil

I have the KB5083769 update on our Windows 11 Pro systems. Hasleo V5.8.2.0 performs the daily scheduled backup well. I only do "System Backup" and have noticed no backup or restore issues.

I have that update installed on a Dell XPS13 9310 with Win11 and have not noticed any issues. I only do manual, whole disk updates (no scheduling) mostly every day.

Thank you all for your feedback.
Based on the current information, KB5083769 can indeed cause backups to get stuck, and all indications point to a failure of the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). Uninstalling this update resolves the issue and can serve as a temporary workaround.
At this point, it is unclear whether Microsoft has officially acknowledged this issue.
We will continue to monitor the situation.

Interesting. I'm assuming everyone's talking about 2026-04 Security Update (KB5083769) (26200.8246). Is that the case? I have it installed, and I'm having no issues at all imaging. Full, differentials, and incrementals all complete successfully (with checks).
I'm not experiencing this issue.

One of the possible causes that I am exploring is that KB5083769 has a conflict on PC's that use an the Intel RST VMD (see Device Manager > Storage). This could be one of the reasons why the problem is not more widespread as this may not be a common configuration. The resolution for this is involved, and may require a BIOS change along with the reinstall of Win11.
It is also possible that some backup programs also cause the VSS failure. Multiple causes makes the identification more difficult.
If/when Microsoft may correct this is unknown.
