Does Backup Normally Exclude the Recycle Bin?
#1
I did some searching on the Backup Forum but didn't find this information. I "assume" that when performing a backup of one's System Disk the copying of the Recycle Bin is excluded.  I'd just like confirmation. Thanks!

Yes, it is exclude by default. It is not mentioned specifically, why I'm not sure. But it is excluded.

Quote: Predefined Backup Filters:
Windows page, hibernation and swap files: Exclude Windows page, hibernation, and swap files from backup sources
Windows VSS snapshot files: Exclude Windows VSS snapshot files from backup sources
Recycle bin: Exclude the Recycle Bin folder (\$RECYCLE.BIN) from the backup sources
'\System Volume Information' folder: Exclude the '\System Volume Information' folder from the backup sources

Actually, Recycle bin is not excluded by default. But you can exclude it by adding it from the list of predefined filters:

Which makes it show up in the list then:

Excluded by default are:
  • Windows page, hibernation and swap files
  • Windows VSS snapshot files
Optionally available for exclusion are:
  • Recycle bin
  • Additional custom filters by filename or path (Home edition or higher)

@al3x is correct. My apologies. Somehow, in my head I mixed up default and predefined.

Thank you for your replies, al3x and n8chavez. That's correct, the Recycle Bin is not excluded by default and needs to be manually added to the file filter in Hasleo Backup Suite.

Thank you all for the clarification. I will exclude it now.

It looks like the Exclude function is not a setting that can be made as a Universal setting, is that correct? That one would have to exclude it every time one makes a new, unique backup?

I'm running v 5.8.2.0 and do not see the Exclusion setting option. Is it only available upon installing the program? I don't see it in the Settings menu whether using the Backup button or the Action buttons. Either of these only starts the back up process with no ability to change any settings.

@starchase,

Global settings are in development and should be released in the future.

You must commence a new backup job, then go to Backup Options to select which filters are applied during that backup job.

Have a great day.

Phil
