HBS ED and KB5101650: Issues with keyboard driver and PE Network

I have developed a solution. Network access is only a medium priority for my winpe.iso, but that along with the other touchpad issues was becoming an annoyance. My temporary solution until HBS and Win11 stabilize is a script that takes a working winpe.iso built when they worked smoothly together, and replaces the old version of HBS in that .iso with the latest HBS build, creating a new .iso.

I now have a functions PE Network Manager, network access, and native keyboard/touchpad. It seems more important to have the latest HBS than the latest Win11 in the winpe.iso.

Trust that Win 11 and HBS will stabilize soon.

Great news. The latest WU 26200.9168 has fixed whatever they broke in previous recent releases. winpe.iso, with some additional drivers, now works again with my wifi and touchpad.

The exercise is building the workaround was educational and informative.

That's just an example of what happens when you rely on MicroSloth's WinRE base WIM... they break it quite often.

The private BASE WIM idea is much better.  Once you have something that works, you don't have to keep upgrading with Window's changes... it will basically work forever.  The Windows 10 RE is based on a 2019 version of Windows and it's always worked well.  The only reason users have to look beyond that is because of all the BiOS certificate changes required for the ongoing BOOTing of UEFI Systems... and all that due mainly to SECURE BOOT.

@Froggie I have tried extensively to get the BASE WIM to work with my laptop. All attempts were unsuccessful in getting wifi or touchpad to work.

Also, if your keyboard layout is something else than en-US, you might have a hard time entering passwords if you rely on MS base WIM.
As someone with a german keyboard layout, that's still my biggest problem with those base images.

If you store backups on a NAS or your backup is password protected, you'll need to provide passwords. And if you use chars that don't exist in the en-US layout, good luck 

*Edit: Just tested this again. Turns out, this seems to be fixed now! I get an english WinPE with correct de-DE keyboard layout. Maybe this was fixed in one of the newer HBS versions (or in the MS image itself)?

*Edit-2: HBS v5.5.2.2 was the last version with this problem apparently. Since HBS v5.6.2.0 the keyboard layout is fixed for me in the MS base image. Nice!

I'm really glad to hear all this good news. I hope Microsoft continues to stay stable, and that we make sure to keep existing features reliable even as we add new ones.

There is no doubt that the certificates issue has broken various scripts and methods that have been around a long time.

Hopefully recent updates from Microsoft may help correct some of these other broken methods caused by previous updates. It's not just WinRE
