Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does wiping a drive do?

A: Wiping permanently erases all data on a drive so it cannot be recovered. This protects your data before selling, lending, or disposing of the drive.

Q: Can wiped data be recovered?

A: No. Once wiped, data is permanently erased and cannot be recovered by any data recovery software.

Q: How long does drive wipe take?

A: Wipe time depends on the drive size. A 256GB SSD takes about 10-15 minutes. Larger HDDs take longer due to sequential write speed.

Q: Can I wipe just one partition?

A: Yes. Select "Partition mode" to wipe just one partition. Use "Disk mode" to wipe the entire disk including all partitions.

Q: Should I wipe my drive before selling it?

A: Yes. Always wipe the drive before selling, lending, or disposing to prevent personal data from being accessed by others.

Q: Does wipe work on SSD and HDD?

A: Yes. Wipe works on both SSDs and HDDs. For SSDs, note that wear leveling may leave some sectors unread.

Q: Can I stop wipe once it starts?

A: No. Once the wipe process starts, it cannot be stopped. Make sure to back up important data before wiping.

Q: Will wipe damage my drive?

A: No. Wipe only overwrites data—it does not physically damage the drive. The drive remains usable after wiping.
